My Room

My course has given us the opportunity to visit RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. Before the student exchange programme, we are tasked to create a map of a place significant to us. This map will then be used as a book cover for our A5 journal used for the programme. I chose to design my room, using my violin as the main object that I cherish in this room. The sun and moon subtly hint at the activities I partake in during the day and night. The giraffe represents my tall height. 

Even though this was my last assignment, I was still very stressed in creating the book cover design, as the brief was very open, and I had no guidance on creating the map. Nevertheless, I am proud of the artwork. 

After coming back from the Melbourne trip, we are tasked to redesign the map through the knowledge we have learnt from the trip, along with a chosen concept which includes historical, cultural and futuristic. I chose to use futuristic as the theme for my redesigned map. 

As we were given a longer deadline, I was less stressed about redesigning the map and was able to think more deeply about how I could show the map. I decided to focus on what I imagine my future would be, using my experience in Melbourne and how it changed my perspective of the world, beyond my room.
